Guns are almost useless against most of the game’s enemies, though they’re a good way of stalling against the bosses.

OK, I know I said the first part, but having finished DMC3 multiple times, I don’t think I’d ever assert that shooting enemies is the way to kill them. This reminds me of Greg Kasavin stating that Devil May Cry 3 is extremely hard, and that the only reasonable way to play it is to avoid direct confrontation and instead chip away at enemies from a distance with the guns. And the boss battles are very intense so far…hell, the regular fighting is intense, the tough miniboss guys scattered here and there are really intense, and the real bosses are just crazy. Juggles, dodges, guard breaks, mini-QTE triggers with the circle button (very well implemented), combo building, unlocking new moves…yeah, there’s quite a bit to the game I’d say. The dodge system is very cool I wasn’t sure that I’d like using the right analog to perform them, since I have to take my right thumb off the main button area, but now I’m doing dodges – the correct dodges depending on what’s incoming, most of the time – in an instant and then going right back to chaining hits. Balancing moves with a lot of downtime (but high damage) with quick moves, and getting good insertion points for triangle and x moves depending on whether there’s another target within range, etc. I like that depending on how you build your main combo you’ll have to watch out for different things. Yeah, any fan of DMC3 would probably like God Hand I think, as long as the tank controls aren’t a huge problem.

Finished Stage 2 and now I think I’m fully accustomed to the game.
