What I hope is that Boss leaves the Katana as it is: a good amp at an. And Katana USB Driver then connect Katana with USB cable.

Hi Reddit!
So my Katana 50 doesn't communicates with the tone studio for some reason. I can play sound from my pc to the amp when it's connected to my pc the programm even loads my amp profiles for a split second ,than refuse to communicate with the amp. (before windows update worked like a dream) [Windows 10 64 Bit]
Things i tried already:
-Firmware on the amp up to date
- Windows 10 access microphone privacy setting checked
-Different USB cables
![Connection Connection](/uploads/1/2/5/5/125594043/619732228.png)
-Different USB ports (2 different USB 2 and 2 different USB 3)
-Katana drivers installed
-Tone Studio reinstall
-Reboot after every software reinstall
-Checked if the USB ports are faulty
I don't know what I missed. The amp is still under warranty so there is that, but it works in every other way.
Thanks for the help in advance!

Cal-Woody USA/California Why do I keep fixing things that work? |
It's early here and I haven't had a chance to plug it in, but how do you know if I have the newest version of the software installed? Have not gone to the website yet but will in a little while, but was wondering if my new amp came loaded with the most current version and if there is any indication on the amp that states this information. Thanks in advance, Woody

I watched endless Youtube videos... Some good, some a waste of time. I figured I try a KATANA sometime. I saw a local ad of someone selling their KTN50 for $125 so I jumped on it. Heck, a good stomp box will cost you more than that. Also, being a technical geek, I immediately connected it up the computer, updated firmware, and quickly got acquainted with Boss Tone Studio. For those who have a Katana, you are missing most of the 'tweaking capability' if you don't use the software. Long story short, I tried the KTN50 at rehearsal and was impressed. The only downside was no footswitch like the KTN100. So let's say I found a way to pick up the KTN100 and Foot Controller. (Yes, I too was confused at first as the labeling did not match what the FC was suppose to do. Luckily I have a label maker and created my own labels. Since I am using version 3 of the firmware, I have the 2 banks of 4 presets I use for my gigging or recording purposes. Time will tell if I keep feeling good about the KATANA, but I even stopped using external OD pedals or effects. I don't know why my feeling would change unless the amp proves unreliable, which at this time I see no signs that would be the case. The only comment to new users out there, you do have to spend time to dial in your sounds. There is a lot of tweaking (which doesn't bother me). You dial it in at home, take it to rehearsal, see what works, go back home and tweak it some more. At this point, I am pretty much done tweaking it unless I need a new sound. I have set my up with CLEAN, BLUES, ROCK, LEAD on bank 1 and CLEAN WITH CHORUS, SRV, ROCK2, 80's ROCK and panel to suit what I need that night. I also spent time on forums, downloaded other examples, most were too harsh sounding, but I feel like I have built some usable patches for my own needs. Have fun with your Katana. It's much more than a practice amp. (This message was last edited by Eddie5323 at 09:32 PM, Jan 18th, 2019)

Your only option is to get the footswitch to change channels or the expression pedal to control volume or effects.

When I accidently tapped it, it turned on a 'Boost' and thought, Cool, I've got a distortion boost for soloing! Well, is this button assignable for 'SOLO'ing' or was that just a happy little accident? By the way, it was LOUD and more than expected/needed, but if I can dedicate this button to use it as a clean boost or some type of boost when wanted, that would be really nice for those moments when you want to push your solo/lead work volume up. I'm still tweaking some settings but am using just the first bank so far, but like you, I want to setup the next bank for my basic channels with the added effects. And did you find there was any delay when switching from one bank to the other?? Because when you want to access those sounds on the fly and switch back, I don't want to be pondering when it will kick in and have just be more fluid in feel.... My Thanks and Appreciation in advance, Woody

Also, the Panel button is used to switch banks. To switch between banks on any particular channel, hold down the Channel button and press Panel for one second. It flashes slowly when you are in bank 2. At least that's how it is on the 50; hope this is relevant to the Artist!

Yeah, I'm kinda lost here but have created some good amp sounds and will more than likely clone those to the other banks and add effects to them, to create some sort of basic sense of what it is that I would want next when playing our song sets. One thing that has really got me bugged is that I have done all the updates and can no longer use the FxFloorboard software, even though the creator has done updates stating that they should work with the newer version of the Boss software. Well, when you try to connect to the FxFloorboard software, it doesn't recognize the amp and am dead in the water there!!! He has developed some really great software and before I had done these updates I could get some really nice amp models and could configure the EQ/effects in a sensible manner. Maybe there is a way to reset the amp back to the Version 2 software and take advantage of that site again! On another note, once you do the update, the amp will only go back to the basic sounds that were used and does not revert to the original shipped version of the software installed. I think that Boss may have a way to reprogram the amp back to the Version 2 software, and if so, I may do just that!!! The Version 3 software adds a couple of effects and with the added update they offer on the Version 3 software, they fixed some glitches, but so far I am attracted to the FxFloorboard software and think that this is more appealing to me and the use of the FxFloorboard software made the amp super flexible and dynamic! A little buyer's remorse from performing the update..... So, until I get familiar with the Boss Tone Studio and can program what I have, I'll still be looking into the idea of resetting the system back to the original software, Version 2.... I guess this may be considered a PSA on updating your Katana's!! Yes, I'm still needing to learn how to program this amp and will keep watching/listening to all that is offered here. My Thanks to all whom have responded, Woody
